LS science teacher studies whale and butterfly migrations over summer
Dianne GriffinIn July, LS science teacher Dianne Griffin participated in an adventure she will not soon forget.  She worked alongside marine biologists based in Puerto Lopez, Ecuador (near the Galapagos Islands), to learn more about the humpback whale's annual migration between their mating/calving areas along Ecuador's warm waters and their feeding areas in the Antarctic.  And then just before school started in August, Griffin participated in a Monarch Teacher Network workshop that visited the Academy Science Garden to learn more about butterfly gardens and rearing monarchs in a butterfly tent.  Griffin helped train the participants in the workshop and shared with them the new plans for the Mexican garden created by Academy third graders, Lloyd Cicetti (LS art teacher), Dayanara Quezada-Taylor (LS Spanish teacher) and CA's Mexican Project teachers, Sandra Garcia and Armando Hernandez.  To see photos of Academy's butterfly program in the latest Around Academy gallery, click here.
