Fifteen seniors named National Merit Semifinalists
|
With 15 students - Joseph Kelley, Michael
Lopresti, Linda Mullin, Elizabeth Nick, Bryan Panzano, Will Petrie, Jonathan
Razi, Justin Richmond-Decker, Kirun Sankaran, Karen Sullivan, Alex Tomko, Holly
Tu, Nathan Vonder Haar, Ryan Williams and Joseph Yang - from The Columbus
Academy recognized recently by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, the
school has the most National Merit Semifinalists in its 97-year history and the
most of any school in central Ohio. Out of 90 members in the senior class
at Academy, these 15 students qualified for the semifinals by scoring in the
top one percent nationally on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship

Varsity football kicks off Thursday at 7:00 p.m.

Not only is this week's varsity home football game on
Thursday night, the start time is a little earlier than usual as well. The game against Granville (2-2 overall, 0-1
in MSL Ohio) will begin at 7 p.m., instead of 7:30 p.m. as listed in the
schedule card. Come support the Vikings
(3-1, 1-0) as they try to remain undefeated in league play.

Eighth-graders bond with field trip to ropes course at Summit Vision
|
Academy's entire eighth grade spent Friday,
Sept. 7, mastering a ropes course in Westerville
known as Summit Vision. According to
Middle School Dean Susan Carter, the field trip was the first of many bonding
experiences planned for the eighth-graders, including an October trip to Washington, D.C. The exercise was meant to develop, improve
and reinforce skills such as trust, communication, problem-solving, conflict
resolution, decision-making, leadership, compromise, perseverance and

PACA hosting MS-US Parent Coffee on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 8:00 a.m.
|
| The Parents' Association of Columbus Academy (PACA)
cordially invites all Middle School and Upper School
parents to the Dining Hall's Westwater Room at 8 a.m. (after morning drop-off)
on Tuesday, Sept. 18. Come meet some of PACA's
board members and learn how to become more involved in your children's school
activities while enjoying complimentary coffee and pastries.

Academy volleyball program supports breast cancer awareness on Sept. 18
|
The Columbus
Academy varsity
volleyball team will wear pink uniforms on Sept. 18 to help promote breast
cancer awareness. During the 6:30 p.m.
match against Newark Catholic on Tuesday night, Amanda Roehrenbeck's squad will sell "Volley
for the Cure" t-shirts for $5 and accept donations to the Susan G. Komen Breast
Cancer Foundation. The team is also dedicating
the game to Karen Lambe (the mother of Coach Roehrenbeck's best friend), who
lost her battle with breast cancer at age 50 over the summer. For

Don't forget about the LATE START this Wednesday, Sept. 19
|
The first faculty/staff development session of the school year will take place this Wednesday (Sept. 19) morning, meaning there will be a late start to the school day. Lower School students can go to the CASE room beginning at 7:30 a.m. while Middle School students can go to the MS Library. Both rooms will have adult supervision. Upper School students should find a quiet place to study or read... Also, for Middle School conferences on Sept. 27, MS students who need to stay at school while their parents have conferences should go to the CASE room, which will be open from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m.

College Counseling adds events to school calendar for Sept. 19, Nov. 13
|

The College Counseling Office has placed the Junior
Parent College Meeting back on the school calendar for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19,
in Schoedinger Theatre... Financing College
Night for all Upper
School students and
parents has also been added on Tuesday, Nov. 13. That 7 p.m. event is a joint effort between
the College Counseling departments of Columbus
Academy and Columbus School
for Girls and will be held in CSG's Shedd Theater.

MS Parent Coffees/Forums for sixth and eighth grades to be held this week
|
| The Middle School continues its parent coffees this
week with the Sixth-Grade Parent Forum scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 20, and
the Eighth-Grade Parent Forum on Friday, Sept. 21. Both of those events are from 8-9 a.m. in the Dining Hall. Click on each grade level's parent forum
name for the topics to be covered and instructions on how to submit other
suggestions for discussion.

Upper Schoolers to learn more about school organizations at ClubFair
|
|
On the afternoon of Sept. 28 (service day), Upper School
students will have the opportunity to learn about and join the school's
numerous clubs and student organizations at an event known as ClubFair.
Prizes will be awarded to the three clubs with the most creative
displays. If your club or organization
is interested in participating, please contact Jourdan Bishop '08.

Win a Nintendo Wii game system at the 25th annual Charlie David Dinner
|
Those who attend the 25th annual Charlie
David Dinner on October 5 will have the chance to win a Nintendo Wii game
system. Raffle tickets will be sold at
the event. Other activities will include
free Boardwalk games for the kids, a silent auction, a 50/50 cash raffle and
great food. All proceeds support Academy's
sports programs. Anyone wishing to
donate items for the silent auction should call Jim Miller at
614-280-4043. Popular items in the past
included sports memorabilia, tickets to upcoming events and the free use of
vacation homes. The dinner committee is
also seeking sponsors for the event.
