Academy's "Volley for the Cure" raises $800 for breast cancer awareness
|
The Columbus
Academy volleyball program
raised $800 for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation during "Volley for
the Cure" night on Sept. 18. The
varsity, JV and middle school teams wore pink uniforms, sold t-shirts and
accepted donations as part of a statewide event. "We can't thank you enough for your
donations, support and kind words," said Viking coach Amanda Roehrenbeck, who
dedicated the game to Karen Lambe (the mother of Coach Roehrenbeck's best
friend), who lost her battle with breast cancer at age 50 over the summer. "The event was a huge success!" To see photos, visit the Around Academy Sports gallery.

Students, parents, faculty/staff needed for Dining Hall Advisory Committee
|
| Each day at Columbus
Academy, the Dining Hall
serves close to 1,300 people with a variety of choices, much more than just the
feature items listed on the school calendar.
A member-rotating Dining Hall Advisory Committee consisting of students,
parents and faculty/staff representatives is being formed to provide ongoing feedback
to changes in the school's lunch offerings.
The initial meeting of the Advisory Committee is Wednesday, Oct. 3, at
3:15 p.m. in the Dining Hall. Anyone
interested in participating in this committee should contact Doug Bennett,
director of facilities and grounds, at doug_bennett@columbusacademy.org. Those interested should also read the summary report of a recent Dining Hall survey that will be discussed at the meeting.

Grand opening of "Ocean Room" at Children's Hospital held on Sept. 20
|
The Ocean Room, a free "toy store" for surgery
patients at Children's Hospital that 11 current Columbus Academy sixth-graders
helped to create, had its grand opening last Thursday. Back in the spring, MaryEve Corrigan's
advisory group of Blake Andrews, Matthew Brigstock (pictured on left), Matthew
Cannon, Michaella Cipriani, Sydney Frazier, Tyler Gittins, Eli Kroos, Sam
Moore, Sarah Poehlmann, Kevin Spence and Mitch Weisgerber raised $500 for a
professional painter to paint the room, and Merrill Lynch generously pledged
funds to support the store. The Ocean
Room is a place where young surgery patients can pick out a toy to play or
cuddle with prior to surgery. To see
Corrigan's photos of the event, please visit this week's Around Academy gallery.
