Charlie David Dinner this Friday at 5 p.m.
|
The silver anniversary of the Charlie David Dinner is
this Friday, Oct. 5, from 5:00-7:30 p.m. in the Dining Hall. All proceeds from the event support Columbus Academy sports, so please come for great
food, free boardwalk games for the kids, a silent auction and raffles for cash
and a Nintendo Wii game system. Tickets
will be available at the door for $10 (adults and students). Children six and under are free! If you would still like to volunteer, please

Two named National Achievement Semifinalists
|
Two seniors at The Columbus Academy - Leigha
Grosh and Ryan Williams - have reached the semifinals of the 2008 National
Achievement Scholarship Program, which recognizes promising black students
throughout the nation. By being among
the state's 58 semifinalists, they have the opportunity to continue in the 44th
annual competition for approximately 800 scholarships worth over $2.5 million
to be awarded next spring. Click here to

LS parents can still register for tonight's Positive Parenting course
|
| The Art of Positive Parenting (TAPP), a nationally
recognized and greatly respected program for parents, is beginning a six-week
course tonight at Columbus
Academy. The class will meet in the Trustees' Room of
Academy Hall from 7-9 p.m. on October 1, 9, 15, 22, 29 and November 5. Please note that next week's class is
scheduled for Tuesday evening due to Columbus Day. The cost is $75 per parent or $125 per
couple, and registrations will be accepted at tonight's first session. For more information and an enrollment form,

Academy hosting seven students and teacher from China this week
|
| From Tuesday through Friday this week, Columbus Academy
will be hosting seven students and a teacher from Hefei,
China, as part of the
school's ongoing exchanges with the Hefei
school district. The visitors will be
home-stayed by CA's Chinese language students and will get a chance to visit
throughout the school during their stay.
In addition, four administrators from Hefei
will also be visiting campus on Tuesday during their U.S. tour. In the past 10 years, over 100 members of the
Academy community have participated in programs through the East Asia
Institute, which is an endowed, growing and unique program in scope and depth
for not just central Ohio but for the entire United States.

Columbus Academy sophomore recognized for community service
|
Jackie Mahler, a sophomore at Columbus Academy,
was recently featured in The Delaware Gazette for her community service. The 15-year-old from Powell raised funds and
then hand made 50 fleece blankets for Project Linus, which provides sick or
traumatized children with handmade blankets and afghans. She learned about the charity through a class

Fifth Grade Band Meeting this Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Schoeding Theatre
|
| All fifth grade band families are encouraged to attend
Tuesday evening's meeting in Schoedinger Theatre. Representatives from Colonial Music will be
on hand to complete the paperwork for instrument rentals and purchases. Save yourself a trip to the music store by
coming to the 7 p.m. meeting. For more

CALLING ALL PARENT VOLUNTEERS!

| This year's Annual Fund Parent Note-a-thon is scheduled
for October 2-3 from 6-8 p.m. in the Dining Hall. Please come and write a few notes to fellow
parents about the importance of the Annual Fund. The development staff will provide snacks,
drinks, dessert, child care and great conversation. If you have any questions, please contact
Erin Saurborn at erin_saurborn@columbusacademy.org, and she will put you in
touch with your Annual Fund Grade Chair.

meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 8 a.m. in the Trustees' Room of Academy

Bender, development committee chair, and Lou Schultz, CA's director of
admissions... Also, Scrip order pick-up begins today, Oct. 1, at the reception
desk in Academy Hall. Kroger reloadable

Upper School Theater Program to stage "The Diary of Anne Frank"
|
Academy's Upper School Theater Program will
perform "The Diary of Anne Frank" on Oct. 26-27 at 7:30 p.m. in Schoedinger
Theatre. Cast members include Emily
Downes '10, Max Kelsten '08, Stephanie Grauer '11, Chelsea Arata '09, Ned
Dutton '08, Mary Parker '08, Benjamin Yoder '11, Linda Mullin '08, Shawn Ali '09
and Al Kemp '08. Tickets can be ordered

Interested in following the Monarch migration to Mexico over Spring Break?
|
The Monarch butterfly's migration to Mexico is one
of nature's most incredible journeys.
Join Dianne Griffin (LS science teacher) and Sean Cullinan (director of
technology) on a trip into the heart of Mexico to see the monarch's winter
habitat and the adaptations monarchs have for survival. On the Spring Break trip, you will tour Mexico City, visit the students of Angangueo, see the
Volcano of Paricutin (included in many versions of the Seven Natural Wonders of
the World), tour the colonial town of Morelia
and see the Pyramids of Teotihuacan. A
meeting to discuss the March 15-22 trip will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday,
Oct. 11, in Mrs. Griffin's classroom (Van Syckel C-008).

No late start for 9th-11th graders taking PLAN and PSAT on Oct. 17
|
| On Wednesday, Oct. 17, students in graders 9 through
11 will be taking practice college admission exams. Freshmen will be taking the PLAN test
(preliminary ACT), while sophomores and juniors will be taking the PSAT. All families will be receiving additional
information in the mail. Please note,
however, that students should report to the Upper School
for attendance by 8:05 a.m., not the late start time.
