Academy golf squad finishes second in state
|
The Columbus
Academy varsity boys golf
team captured state runner-up honors over the weekend. Steve Evans' squad finished just one stroke
behind state champion Sugarcreek Garaway at the OSU Scarlet Course on Saturday
after shaving 11 strokes off their first-round score that had them in fourth at
the tournament's midway point. Viking
senior Alex Simson placed third with a 36-hole score of 153 (76-77) and junior
Byron Viets tied for 13th at 163 (85-78). With scores of 176, junior Matt Coffin
(93-83) and sophomore Ben Nicola (84-92) tied for 38th while senior
Ned Dutton placed 43rd out of 71 Division III competitors with a 178
(91-87). This year's result marked CA's
sixth second-place finish to go along with six titles in 20 state tournament
appearances. To see photos of the team
with their state runner-up trophy, check out this week's Around Academy gallery. And to see the Division III hole-by-hole
