Columbus Academy produces 65 AP Scholars
|
Based on their exceptional achievement on the
college-level Advanced Placement Program Exams last May, 65 students from Columbus Academy recently earned the designation
of AP Scholar by the College Board. Of
those students, seven - Rich Bracken '07, Sarah Levine '07, Cora Mukerji '07,
Ryan Paulson '07, Emily Rials '07, Alex Tomko '08 and Gary Zhang '07 - qualified
for the National AP Scholar Award by earning an average grade of 4 or higher on
a 5-point scale on all AP Exams taken and
grades of 4 of higher on eight or more of those exams. Zhang (pictured on left) qualified for the even more prestigious
State AP Scholar Award, which is granted to the one male and one female student
in each U.S.
state with grades of 3 or higher on the greatest number of AP Exams and with
the highest average grade on all AP Exams taken. The current freshman at Columbia had a 4.63 average on 16 AP Exams,
making him the school's first State AP Scholar since Kishore Jiyanti '03 in 2003. To see the complete list of Columbus Academy's
AP Scholars, please click here.

Academy girls tennis squad placed second
after a 3-2 loss in the finals to Lexington. The Vikings advanced to the Division II
championship with a 4-1 victory over Cincinnati
Hills Christian

Holly Tu '08 and Valerie Micek '09 finished fourth in the state on Saturday
while Sheena Koushik '09 won the program's first-ever singles match on the

Ten "Can" Days begin today... volunteers needed for making meals!
|
|
CA families who wish to support the Ten "Can"
Food Drive
should bring or send in non-perishable food items with their children
starting today through November 2. Grocery carts (courtesy of Gahanna
Meijer) will be positioned at carpool drop-offs and school entrances so that students
do not have to tote heavy items. The goal is to provide: 7 dinners, 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches for
each of the 35 sponsored families.
When shopping, please check expiration dates. Favorite items to
add to shopping lists this week:
Breakfast: pancake mix,
cereal (all kinds), breakfast bars, muffin mix, quick break mix, oatmeal
(regular and flavored)
Lunch and Dinner: peanut butter, jelly, crackers, boxed mac and
cheese, soups, stews, canned fruit (including fruit cups), canned vegetables
(all varieties), pasta, spaghetti sauce, beans, chili, rice, baking supplies, stuffing
mix, canned tuna (also chicken, ham, salmon), jello/pudding mixes, pudding
cups, ketchup, mustard, salad dressings, baby food
Making
Meals: CA Service
Board members, Dorothy Dell and other CA staff members, and a host of parent
volunteers package donated items into meal groups for delivery to the sponsored
families. We need 20 adults, 30 US
students, and 60 MS students to complete the job in the Dining Hall. US students will receive CA Service hours for
working. CA fourth-graders will
have a special opportunity to volunteer on November 11 with a shopping activity
at Gahanna Meijer.
To
volunteer, please contact Christy Bening at 509-2294 or bening@columbusacademy.org by October 25. Volunteers from prior years will tell you that
it is both a fun and a heartwarming experience. To see

Thank you for supporting the CA Annual Fund
|
| By now, you should have received a letter and
personal note from a fellow class parent about the importance of the Annual
Fund. A big "thank you" to the 20
percent of you who have already participated in our school's most important
fundraising effort. Did you know that
$0.70 of each dollar raised goes directly to faculty and staff
compensation? Yes, the Annual Fund is
that important to our operating budget.
For the 80 percent of you yet to contribute to the Annual Fund, please
send in your tax deductible gift today.
Alongside our monetary goal of $1.2 million, we hope to reach 100
percent parent participation. Our
volunteer team will be in touch soon!
Thank you in advance for your support. For more
information on the Annual Fund, please contact Erin Saurborn at erin_saurborn@columbusacademy.org.
You can also make your gift online by
