Paul Farmer chosen as Phil Currier Lecture Speaker for February 6, 2008
|
Paul Farmer, a true agent of change in global
healthcare, will be the guest speaker in Columbus Academy's
2008 Phil Currier Lecture Series on February 6.
Farmer emerged from a humble childhood of poverty to become a worldwide
expert in providing public health services to impoverished communities. His clinical treatments have become the
global model for tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS initiatives around the world. He received the MacArthur Genius Grant in
1993 and has also received support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation,
the William J. Clinton Presidential Foundation and the Global Fund. He was made known to the world by the popular
bestseller "Mountains Beyond Mountains"
and a 2005 U.S. News & World Report article
(click here to read) that profiled him as one of "America's
Best Leaders." Farmer's speech, which
will be free and open to the public, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Academy's

Columbus Academy partners with 3N -- National Notification Network
|
| As part of continuing efforts to enhance our
safety and security programs, The Columbus Academy has partnered with 3N -
National Notification Network to assist us in providing quick and precise
communication to the school community in an emergency situation. Later this week, parents should receive an
e-mail message from 3N welcoming you to their program and requesting various
contact information and associated priority settings. So that we can implement this program as soon
as possible, please provide 3N with your contact information as soon as you
receive their welcome message. In
addition to emergency events, this system will also be used to notify our
community in the event of an unscheduled school closing such as a snow or
extreme cold day. 3N is the leading
global provider of mass notification solutions to Global 2000 corporations,
government agencies, health system and educational institutions. The 3N system can notify recipients by all
standard communication methods including phone, e-mail, SMS text messaging,
instant messaging, fax, Blackberry and others.
You will control how the system should contact you. For more information, please contact Director
of Facilities and Grounds Doug Bennett at 509-2262 or doug_bennett@columbusacademy.org.

Academy's Interior Threat Lockdown Drill considered a success
|
Columbus Academy held an Interior
Threat Lockdown Drill last Tuesday that members of the Gahanna Police
Department called "one of the best lockdown drills we've seen." The officers also commented that the campus
seemed like a ghost town, as desired, and that "everyone seemed to know their
roles." The drill helped the school's
administration and staff understand what still needs to be improved in the
event that a disruptive force is inside one of the school buildings. A similar lockdown drill for an exterior
threat was successfully staged last spring.
Columbus Academy currently exceeds the state law
requiring at least one lockdown drill per school year.

Please note correction to Fall 2007 issue of Academy Magazine
|
We sincerely apologize for an error on Page 21
of the Fall 2007 issue of Academy Magazine, which should have arrived in your
home mailboxes recently. The class year
for William L. Case should have been listed as '36, not '58. The accompanying photo, as well, should have
been this one of William Lyman Case Jr., not the printed one of William Lyman
Case III. We are truly sorry for any
confusion this error may have caused.
