Kudos to pair of Middle Schoolers who excel in spelling and poetry
Ramaswamy & BoykinsAt the regional spelling bee on Saturday, sixth-grader Rahul Ramaswamy (pictured, left) represented Columbus Academy as one of 33 students (out of 80 local champions) selected for the oral bee after passing the written portion with flying colors.  He made it all the way to the eighth round with only five spellers remaining, giving him encouragement that he can win it all next year.  Also, a poem titled "Peanut Butter and Jelly" by CA fifth-grader Sydnie Boykins (pictured, right) was published in the 2007 Anthology of Poetry by Young Americans.  The poem reads: "Peanut butter and jelly is yummy, Good to eat for your tummy.  The jelly is made wiggly, And if you eat too much, Your stomach gets jiggly.  Peanut butter is smooth or crunchy, It sure is munchy.  So don't delay, try some today."

Business office to be closed next Tuesday-Friday, April 8-11

New Parent Education Seminars scheduled for April 30 and May 2
Due to increased interest and positive response from the parent community regarding the first two Parent Education Seminars earlier this year, a third seminar has been planned for April 30 and May 2 in the Trustees' Room.  The seminar, "How Great Schools Work: The Parent/School Partnership," is presented by Patrick Bassett, who is president of the National Association of Independent Schools.  Designed for current and/or prospective parents, it addresses choices in schools (public vs. private), how independent schools work, what great schools have in common, what kids need from adults, what schools need from parents and what parents need from schools.  The first session will be held from 5:00-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, while the second will be from 8:15-9:45 a.m. on Friday, May 2.
