Junior class experiences Challenge Day
|
Last Tuesday, the entire junior class was
engaged in a day-long program in the Barton Room. Challenge Day was an idea initiated by Anna
Askari, who first learned about it on "The Oprah Winfrey Show. Receiving help from classmates Ben Mozenter,
Alannah Linkhorn and Shawn Ali, along with several faculty and staff members
over a seven-month period, Askari was able to bring this program to Academy in
order to help her class develop better relationships and to promote a more
supportive and open school environment.
By all accounts, the event had a profound impact on all of those
involved. To see photos of Friday's
Challenge Day wrap-up, see this week's Around Academy gallery. The gallery also
includes images from last Thursday's Lower
School assembly featuring LS Head Dan Vorenberg kissing a pig, the
first grade music concert and LS faculty members dressed for Prom!

Kudos to pair of Columbus Academy faculty members
|
Two Academy faculty members recently had good
news to share. Middle School art teacher
Scott Neal has been asked to serve on
the advisory committee for the Kelton House
Museum, a Victorian
architecture unit built in 1852 that CA seventh-graders have been touring for
over 30 years. The advisory committee
meets quarterly and provides advice and networking to the museum on topics
ranging from historic preservation to earned income generation. Also, Academy's instrumental music instructor
Jessica Sneeringer recently
conducted the Central Ohio Brass Band
to a second-place finish at the North American Brass Band Championships on
March 29. Competing against bands from New England, Illinois, Georgia and Florida, Sneeringer's group narrowly missed
repeating as champions by just 3.2 points out of a possible 300.
