CA parent helps 8th-graders study Helen Keller in unique, hands-on way
|
As all Academy eighth-graders began reading "The Miracle Worker" in their language
arts classes, CA parent Bernadette Van
Den Tillaart was called upon for her expertise in tactile communication
skills utilized by deaf-blind people.
Her April 17 presentation included students wearing blindfolds and
noise-cancelling headphones while their fellow classmates led them to
accomplish certain tasks. The students
then discussed their roles as guides and as a deaf-blind person and the
difficulties they encountered just trying to accomplish a menial task. Please click here to see quotes about the exercise from some of the students involved.
And visit this week's Around Academy gallery to see photos from the event.

Middle School's Jack White Meet this Wednesday during Wacky Week
|
|
If you were on campus today, you probably
noticed some students wearing unusual outfits.
That is because today is Mismatch Day, which kicks off Wacky Week in the Middle School. Tomorrow, all Middle Schoolers are
allowed-encouraged even-to wear all one color for Monochromatic Day. On Wednesday, gray and maroon will be the
colors of choice for Viking Day, in honor of the annual Jack White Track Meet that will take place from 8:15 a.m. until
noon. Sports jerseys will be popular for
Thursday's Team Day, followed by a general Dress Down event on Friday. If a student chooses not to participate in
any particular day of Wacky Week, then they must be in proper school dress
code. For more information, please
contact Tina Cantrell in the MS
office at 614-509-2264 or tina_cantrell@columbusacademy.org.
