Academy Hall
Academy Hall opened in the summer of 1999.

Facilities Director is Doug Bennett, 614-509-2262, Doug_Bennett@columbusacademy.org.

Situated on 231 wooded acres, The Columbus Academy offers an unparalleled environment for learning. Many Academy acres remain untouched and provide a natural laboratory for all sorts of studies. Teachers use this "living lab" frequently, and students appreciate the hands-on opportunities it affords.

The Columbus Academy moved from its long-time Nelson Road location in Bexley to Gahanna in 1968, expanding its campus exponentially. Colonnaded structures welcome students and visitors and reflect the traditional education that occurs within. Subsequent additions/remodeling have added space and flexibility to the school's physical plant which offers:

Distinct building areas for Lower, Middle and Upper Schools
Six state-of-the-art computer labs and campus-wide wireless Internet access
Centralized performance and visual arts complex
A library for each division with online access to holdings
Large dining hall serving both family style and buffet meals
Indoor, six-lane swimming pool
Three developmentally designed playgrounds
Two full-sized gymnasiums, a well-equipped fitness/weight room and a wrestling/multi-purpose room
Lighted football, soccer and field hockey fields, two baseball diamonds, all-weather eight-lane track, eight outdoor tennis courts and an on-campus cross country course

The Advancing the Quest capital campaign made it possible for Academy to expand and renovate in the summer of 2004 creating:

  • 14 classrooms, including six US science labs in the new Parents' Hall
  • A Lower School library and classroom wing
  • Improved spaces for academic specialists and conferencing
  • Expanded theater stage wings and storage areas
  • Enlarged and revamped backstage dressing rooms
  • Larger performing arts classrooms and instrument storage
  • Additional turn and standing lanes on roadways to improve safety, traffic flow and carpool drop-off and pick up times
  • Approximately 90 parking spaces
  • Two new playgrounds
  • New athletic complex entrance, weight room/fitness center, offices, concessions area connected to existing gyms/pool
  • Relocated, new tennis courts
  • Improved girls sports fields and parking near athletic facilities
  • New track/field/football field lights and bleachers
  • New pool roof
